| Zonta Golf Classic – Zonta Clubs in Southern Ontario have been
hosting "women's only" golf tournaments to raise money
for breast cancer for more than twelve years. In 1993 the Zonta
Club of Kitchener Waterloo hosted a tournament in honour of Betty
Thompson, a charter member of their club (Miss Betty from Romper
Room), who had developed breast cancer. In 1998 they challenged
other Zonta Clubs to follow suit so that last year 8 tournaments
hosted by 13 Zonta Clubs raised over $250,000. To date, almost $2,000,000
has been raised.
Our June 10th, 2010, the Zonta Classic raised $29,000. These funds will be donated to the Juravinski Cancer Centre to help fund the CIBC Breast Assessment Centre. We have pledged $100,000 for this cause, and have nearly reached our comittment. A portion also sponsors the Life After Breast Cancer Conference in Hamilton.

District Conference 2009 - The Zonta Club of Hamilton 1 was proud to host the 51st District 4 Conference at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Hamilton. Almost 200 attendees participated in "Zonta Goes Green", a carbon neutral conference. We elected new officers, voted to encourage clubs to assemble and distribute birthing kits, enjoyed many great speakers and workshops, and had fun. Below is a picture of our President Anita accepting a Club Award from Area Director Catherine Bobesich. Governor Kathleen Douglass is behind them.

International Conventions - International conventions
are held every 2 years. We have just returned from San Antonio Texas where the 60th Zonta International Convention took place June 25th to June 30, 2010. The next convention will take place in Turin Italy, in early July, 2012.
